- understand the purpose and importance of sickness absence procedures
- understand legal requirements and best practice in dealing with sickness absence
- are clear about their role, and the role of Occupational Health, in sickness absence cases
- understand the procedures to follow in dealing with both short-term and long-term sickness absence
- understand the need to take appropriate action as soon as matters arise, and to keep HR informed from the outset
- have an opportunity to share experiences and concerns with colleagues in a safe environment
