A one-day course aimed at public sector budget managers who have had no formal finance training.

1 day (10am to 4.30pm with a 45 minute lunch break)

Approximately £125 per day per delegate. Charges depend on how many delegates book.
- Use this session to gain a better understanding of the financial process and common terms used.
- It's not about turning you into an accountant - but rather giving you the confidence to have financial conversations with your commercial team.
By the end of the course, you will:
- Recognise and describe some of the common terms and jargon that are used
- Identify the role and importance of Finance within local authorities
- Identify the elements of the Income & Expenditure and Balance Sheet
- Introduce elements of Commercial Empathy and gage their awareness of the financial process
- Understand the impact of external factors on local authority budgets
- Learn about the key techniques within management accounting, specifically costing, cash flow and budgeting
- The importance of cost coding and budget allocations
- State the contents of a business case and the methods available to appraise proposed investments
